Damage to Property, Intimidation, Threats and Harassment
Unidentified miscreants set a church on fire damaging properties worth Rupees 2.5 lakh on May 24 in Shelanagar, Vizag, Andhra Pradesh.
It was reported that the “Sevonu Praethana Mandhiram” church was burnt while nobody was present in the church. The church was completely burned down and the fire also damaged the power supply line of the adjacent orphanage.
Local Christians said that two weeks before the incident took place, a group of people led by Narendra Babu threatened the Christians and put a fence around the church to forcibly stake claim over the land. The total loss is estimated to be around 3 lakhs.
The local pastor along with some of the church believers have filed a police complaint and are still waiting for action on the matter.
