Pastor detained based on false allegations of religious conversions in Uttar Pradesh

A pastor was detained by the police as he closed a prayer service that he was holding at a church run independently by him situated at Madarbhari village in Ambedkar Nagar in Uttar Pradesh. Some religious extremists living nearby complained against him at the local police station alleging that he is converting the religion of others. The police took the pastor to the police station and demanded a bribe of Rs. 8,000/- to close the matter. When the pastor refused to give him the money, the police booked him under section 151 of the Code of Criminal Procedure. The pastor was released from police custody only after two days.
